The producers of \u201cRedeeming Love\u201d are crediting strong word of mouth for the film\u2019s $3.7 million opening, which secured its slot as the number one new film of the weekend. It ranked as number four on the weekend chart, trailing \u201cSpider-Man: No Way Home,\u201d \u201cScream,\u201d and \u201cSing 2\u201d and besting \u201cThe King\u2019s Man\u201d and \u201cThe 355.\u201d Audiences gave the adaptation of the classic Francine Rivers novel a 98% positive audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Exit polls Comscore and Screen Engine PostTrak also showed fan satisfaction with the book adaptation with 85% positive and 72% recommend scores.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrancine Rivers\u2019 fingerprints are on every frame of this film,\u201d said one filmgoer. \u201cFrancine ensured the film was faithful to the book. The story shows how the Lord even redeemed intimacy for Angel, which is a hopeful message for anyone who might wonder if they\u2019re too far gone for God to love.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis movie isn\u2019t for the religious, it\u2019s for the redeemed,\u201d said Christian recording artist Nicole C. Mullen. Other well-known faith personalities such as Priscilla Shirer also lent their support on social media. \u201cThe underscoring of the love of God\u2026is something I think every moviegoer is going to just be able to take into their heart and leave with,\u201d said Shirer.<\/p>\n

Rivers noted, \u201cIt has been a 30-year journey since my first inspiration to write the book, then seeing it on the big screen. Redeeming Love is a powerful and timeless love story that takes place against the backdrop of the California Gold Rush of 1850. The story centers on Angel (Abigail Cowen), who was sold into prostitution as a child. She has survived through hatred and self-loathing until she meets Michael Hosea (Tom Lewis) and discovers there is no brokenness that love can\u2019t heal.<\/p>\n

Director D.J. Caruso\u2019s work encompasses a variety of film genres including thriller (\u201cDisturbia\u201d), drama (\u201cStanding Up\u201d), and action (\u201cI Am Number Four\u201d) as well as episodic television such as \u201cThe Shield,\u201d \u201cOver There,\u201d \u201cSmallville,\u201d and \u201cDark Angel\u201d. His action thriller xXx: \u201cReturn of Xander Cage\u201d starring Vin Diesel grossed $347 million globally. Caruso fell in love with the characters in \u201cRedeeming Love\u201d after his wife introduced him to the novel.<\/p>\n
