The popularity of worship music was once again reflected in the awards handed out at the 47th annual Gospel Music Awards, held last night at Nashville\u2019s Lipscomb University. Lauren Daigle won three awards with Hillsong United and Bethel Music were awarded two Doves each.<\/p>\n

After winning the night\u2019s top award, Daigle reflected on her whirlwind year, which included the Gold certification (500,000 copies sold) of her debut Centricity Music Album.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had no idea that God would do this. I\u2019m just so excited that the kingdom is being uplifted and people around the world are hearing his truth,\u201d she said.
\nDaigle\u2019s other awards included Songwriter of the Year (Artist) and Pop\/Contemporary Song of the Year for \u201cTrust In You.\u201d<\/p>\n

Daigle\u2019s Centricity Records label mate Jordan Feliz won New Artist of the Year and \u201cGood, Good Father,\u201d sung by Chris Tomlin and written by Pat Barrett and Tony Brown won Song of the Year.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Tomlin was recognized by the Sound Exchange organization, which tracks the amount of songs streamed over services such as Spotify, iTunes and other online music providers. Tomlin\u2019s music has seen more than a billion streams and he follows mainstream acts Justin Timberlake, Garth Brooks, and Pitbull in being recognized.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I\u2019m most proud of is what this recognition says about the genre of Christian music. Christian music as a whole is what is being recognized today. This signals that the church is alive and well,\u201d Tomlin said when accepting the award.<\/p>\n

The awards were hosted by for KING & COUNTRY and Tye Tribbett and featured performances by Tamela Mann, Hillsong UNITED, Natalie Grant, Matthew West, Natalie Grant and more.<\/p>\n

During TobyMac\u2019s performance, a surprise onstage reunion happened with his DC Talk bandmates Michael Tait and Kevin Max for his song \u201cThis is What Love Feels Like,\u201d their first Doves performance in 15 years. The show also included another reunion of Southern Gospel artists such as The Isaacs, Karen Peck and New River, and the Kingheirs singing songs from the Red Back Hymnal, which were actually placed under the seats in the arena. Gospel trio Phillips, Craig and Dean also performed a medley of hits and was recognized for 25 years of music ministry.<\/p>\n

Additional winners included for King and Country for Pop Contemporary Artist of the Year, Kirk Franklin for Gospel Artist of the Year, \u201cNo Longer Slaves\u201d as Worship Song of the Year and \u201cWar Room\u201d for Inspirational Film of the Year.<\/p>\n
