The film, originally simply titled \u201cThe Passion,\u201d starred Jim Caviezel as Jesus, created controversy and curiosity before its 2004, which blew up the box office. The final box office run was more than $622 million, making it the biggest faith-based film and highest-grossing R-rated film at the time of its release.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7872\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7872\" style=\"width: 768px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7872\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/720\/2023\/06\/caviezel-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"402\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7872\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jim Caviezel image courtesy of Genevieve (Wikimedia Commons)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Since \u201cThe Passion of the Christ\u201d hints at the resurrection of Christ, it had long been rumored that Gibson and Caviezel would return for a sequel. In 2020, Caviezel revealed he had received a script.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s called \u2018The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection.\u2019 It\u2019s going to be the biggest film in world history,\u201d Caviezel told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/radio\/2020\/09\/10\/jim-caviezel-mel-gibson-draft-passion-christ-sequel\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">news website Breitbart.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>For the \u201cThe Passion of the Christ: Resurrection\u201d script, Gibson enlisted the help of \u201cBraveheart\u201d scribe Randall Wallace, who also penned \u201cMan in the Iron Mans,\u201d \u201cPearl Harbor,\u201d \u201cWe Were Soldiers,\u201d \u201cSecretariat\u201d and \u201cHeaven is for Real.\u201d The writer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wallaceentertainment.com\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">said he had been getting \u201c<\/a>lots of questions about the progress\u201d but was \u201cnot ready to talk much about the movie, except to say I\u2019m deeply excited and committed to the story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are things that I cannot say that will shock the audience,\u201d Caviezel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/passion-christ-sequel-aims-shock-143357882.html?guccounter=1&amp;guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&amp;guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAHfs2LaS3t0Fj3slmDIlWNdrXmMnSuEFlvw-IKrm6Fr_z7Z6dANnhhto5VLu6J3ZBEmIv4cqBiL8-NQ9F96C-Ot5osQ0-_3CTJkAPMsoamf3Nc_RqNiPRG3GYUeRRkBBoBKNN-6cIOvyfQof_01x75sq_8AT7zX4jAR9KjanFCn-\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">added<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s great. Stay tuned. \u2018Braveheart,\u2019 that\u2019s a film that took a long time to be able to crack. The same thing for \u2018Passion.\u2019 And the same thing for this. [Mel\u2019s] finally got it. So that is coming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncregister.com\/blog\/mel-gibson-working-on-sequel-to-the-passion-of-the-christ-says-jim-caviezel\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Edward Petin, writing for The National Catholic Registry<\/a>, reported in September that many of the other cast members, such as Maia Morgenstern (Mary), Christo Jivkov (John), and Francesco De Vito (Peter) had also agreed to be in the film. It\u2019s possible his death has further delayed the production.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy dear friend Christo has lost his heroic battle with cancer,\u201d Gibson said. \u201cRight to the last moment he was filled with hope and his spirit was strong. I\u2019ll miss him but I know his suffering is over and he has eternal bliss.
