Although there is an organization with this name \u201cNextbook<\/a>,\u201d presumably that won\u2019t make it inappropriate to attempt to coin a phrase and lay claim to the term \u201cnextbooks<\/strong>\u201d for the sort of electronic, open access, open source, online, digital, interactive, multimedia \u201ctextbooks\u201d that we have been talking about<\/a>. Especially since Mark Goodacre suggested that what we have in mind is something less \u201ctexty,\u201d<\/a> replacing the \u201ctext\u201d part with something else seems appropriate. And since we\u2019re envisaging lots of different, partially overlapping educational materials using an array of new media, having them simply be \u201cwhat\u2019s next<\/em>\u201d rather than \u201celectronic textbooks\u201d or something else more cumbersome seems preferrable.<\/p>\n

What do others think? Do I get to go down in history as the person who coined the phrase \u201cnextbooks\u201d?<\/p>\n
