Today, a student said the following words to me:<\/p>\n

You were a really great God.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I told the class that that is the best compliment I\u2019ve ever received in my life.<\/p>\n

\"\"Let me back up a bit and give the context. In my First Year Seminar Class \u201cFaith, Doubt, and Reason,\u201d our most recent reading was Goethe\u2019s\u00a0Faust: Part One<\/em>. I assigned the students to compose their own additional scene, whether inserted into the story or situated after the ending. One group only had three students in it, and so they asked if I would help out by reading the final monologue at the end of their skit, which happened to be the voice of God.<\/p>\n

So that was the background to being told \u201cYou were a great God.\u201d But, as sentences taken out of context go, this still remains the best compliment ever, and the best one I\u2019ve ever received!<\/p>\n

Let me conclude by saying that the students did a great job on the skits. They were all entertaining, and one group even included costumes!<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
