Andrew Perriman<\/a> has an interesting post about how the usual meaning of the term\u00a0sk\u0113nopoios<\/em>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/em><\/span>translated in the English versions of the Acts of the Apostles as \u201ctent-maker\u201d (Acts 18:3<\/a>), is a stagehand or maker of theatrical scenery.<\/p>\n

If that were Paul\u2019s profession, how might we think differently about him? How might it change the way we think about his activity of proclamation of the Christian message?<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span>I\u2019m particularly intrigued that this might connect with Paul\u2019s statement in Galatians 3:1<\/a> that \u201cChrist was publicly depicted as crucified<\/a>\u201d before them.<\/p>\n

Of course, the abridged Liddell and Scott<\/a> simply gives the meaning as \u201ctent-maker\u201d and that is, at least etymologically, the root of the term. Has anyone else looked into this term and its usage in and around the first century?<\/p>\n
