\"Finding<\/a>\"\"<\/span>In\u00a0a conversation with another biblioblogger who\u00a0perpetuated some very popular and widespread misconceptions and falsehoods about evolution, I thought it best to recommend a book, since all too many people think that matters of science can be settled by what they remember from high school and \u201ccommon sense.\u201d Of course, it should go without saying that\u00a0the latter doesn\u2019t provide a useful guide,\u00a0since so\u00a0much that science has told us about the nature of the universe and its history has run counter to our \u201ccommon sense\u201d assumptions. And I never cease to be shocked by how many schools around the United States actually skip evolution so as to avoid controversy.<\/p>\n

A very helpful book, in my experience, is Kenneth Miller\u2019s Finding Darwin\u2019s God: A Scientist\u2019s Search for Common Ground Between God and Evolution<\/em><\/a><\/span>. Approaching the subject as a Christian as well as a prominent and respected expert in biology, Miller doesn\u2019t merely present the evidence for evolution in a general way, but specifically addresses arguments put forward by proponents of young-earth creationism and intelligent design \u2013 and does so not only scientifically but also theologically.<\/p>\n

Having made the recommendation to this fellow biblioblogger, I looked on Amazon and was surprised to find that it is currently on sale new<\/em> for only $6! So if you\u2019ve never read it, or if you could use some extra inexpensive copies to pass on to people who offer misinformed opposition to one of the best established theories in the natural sciences, this seems like a wonderful opportunity!<\/p>\n
