We need to protest what is objectionable and condemn what is immoral. Otherwise, we run the risk of perpetuating the violent legacy of Scripture by making the \u201cgood book\u201d behave in very bad ways.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sharpiron.wordpress.com\/2011\/02\/01\/the-bible-is-not-the-good-book-or-a-bad-book-it-is-just-a-book\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/sharpiron.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/02\/6a00e3932f6cd9883400e54f9acde28833-800wi.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"168\" height=\"130\"><\/a>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/thoughtlife\/2013\/02\/can-a-messiah-college-ot-professor-really-teach-the-bibles-immoral\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">conservative Evangelical reaction against what Seibert wrote has already begun<\/a>. But note the basis for the response I linked to from Owen Strachan. Seibert has violated the statement of faith of Messiah College.<\/p>\n<p>Conservative Evangelicals elevate their doctrines <em>about<\/em> the Bible above the Bible itself, so that it is not allowed to say what it says, but only what they have determined in advance it is allowed to say.<\/p>\n<p>How long can this be kept up, and people still believe that the conservatives are the defenders of Scripture, rather than a group that has taken the Bible hostage and keeps it under guard? But take heart.
