Below is a song I wrote a while back, but haven\u2019t shared publicly until now. I wrote it after a discussion in my Sunday school class about creeds, in which I asked whether a list of beliefs ought to be what characterizes us, or something else.<\/p>\n<\/iframe>\nHere are the lyrics, which are also in the video:<\/p>\n<blockquote>Creed<\/strong><\/p>\nI believe in God, the boundless<\/p>\nLove that never knows an end<\/p>\nA love for enemy as well as friend<\/p>\nI believe in following Jesus<\/p>\nPath from which I sometimes stray<\/p>\nI believe to believe is to do, and not just to say<\/p>\nCHORUS<\/p>\nThis is my creed<\/p>\nTo stand against injustice<\/p>\nTo feed the poor and needy<\/p>\nTo side with the oppressed<\/p>\nThis is my creed<\/p>\nTo help the broken-hearted<\/p>\nTo comfort the afflicted<\/p>\nTo help the tired find rest<\/p>\nAnd if you say that\u2019s not a creed<\/p>\nI\u2019ll say you don\u2019t know what it means to believe<\/p>\nI believe in acting justly<\/p>\nLoving mercy, loving grace<\/p>\nI believe in walking humbly<\/p>\nWith your God<\/p>\nI believe in treating others<\/p>\nAs you want them to treat you<\/p>\nI believe its OK to believe<\/p>\nBut you also must do<\/p>\nCHORUS<\/p>\nThis is my creed<\/p>\nTo be there for those who sorrow<\/p>\nAnd to work for our tomorrow<\/p>\nAs long as I may live<\/p>\nThis is my creed<\/p>\nTo live a life of passion<\/p>\nOf kindness and of compassion<\/p>\nGiving all I have to give<\/p>\nAnd if you say that\u2019s not a creed<\/p>\nI\u2019ll say you don\u2019t know what it means to believe<\/p>\n(c) 2013 James F.
