In the final part of the review, Brown\u00a0sums up his assessment this way:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>All in all, I found this book to be pretty mediocre. Richard Carrier states in his bio on his blog that he is a specialist in Christian origins and with this book he has tried to make a name for himself in the field. But he has failed. Abysmally. This book only goes to demonstrate Carrier\u2019s lack of familiarity with the field he is trying to navigate.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14357 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/exploringourmatrix\/files\/2013\/05\/historical-jesus.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"90\" height=\"302\">It has been funny to see <a href=\"http:\/\/vridar.wordpress.com\/2013\/05\/06\/richard-carriers-review-of-bart-ehrman-and-the-quest-of-the-historical-jesus\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">the blog Vridar<\/a> criticize Richard Carrier for criticizing the non-scholarly mythicist contributions to a volume to which he also contributed. If mythicists are going to not take seriously the one individual with a PhD in history who supports mythicism, is it any surprise that mythicism is not taken seriously by others?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tomverenna.wordpress.com\/2013\/05\/03\/recognizing-fiction-in-history-give-me-liberty-or-give-me-death\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Tom Verenna<\/a> blogged about recognizing fiction in history.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ntmark.wordpress.com\/2013\/05\/04\/handout-1-christianity-was-not-born-in-a-vacuum\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Mike Kok shared a handout<\/a> about the fact that Christianity did not appear in a historical vacuum (and <a href=\"http:\/\/ntmark.wordpress.com\/2013\/05\/06\/handout-2-the-synoptic-problem\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">another about the Synoptic problem<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.telecomtally.com\/blog\/2013\/05\/the_new_journal_of_ancient_his.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Duane Smith<\/a> mentioned a new, free journal of ancient history.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kenschenck.blogspot.com\/2013\/05\/most-scholars-think.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Ken Schenck<\/a> suggested that, for \u201cmost scholars think\u201d to be a meaningful phrase, most scholars need to make their work freely available online.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/jamestabor.com\/2013\/05\/02\/do-historians-exclude-the-supernatural\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">James Tabor<\/a> discussed whether historians exclude the supernatural a priori.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, <a href=\"http:\/\/hieroilogoi.org\/2013\/05\/04\/morton-feldmans-turfan-fragments\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Hieroi Logoi<\/a> mentioned Morton Feldman\u2019s avant garde setting of the Turfan Fragments.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kevin Brown has finished reviewing Richard Carrier\u2019s book. \u00a0I\u2019ve shared other parts previously, but now you can read part three,\u00a0part four,\u00a0and\u00a0part five.
