In light of this sneak peek from next week\u2019s episode<\/a>, I wonder whether the smoke monster isn\u2019t what some think of as \u201cGod\u201d \u2013 one who believes humans are corrupt, judges them and punishes them for their shortcomings, but also wants to offer them a life in which the emotions that make for sin are eliminated. Jacob on the other hand wants life, with all its complexities, and wants humans to succeed even though it means taking a hands-off stance (except with the candidates, who need a little push). An interesting theological discussion starter could be the question: which of the two figures, Jacob or the man in black,\u00a0is close to a\u00a0Christian (or insert other religion here) view of God?<\/p>\n
