(A <a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/primatediaries\/2009\/12\/four_stone_hearth.php?utm_source=selectfeed&amp;utm_medium=rss\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">recent carnival<\/a> gives the perspectives of several anthropologists on the movie). I won\u2019t discuss the plot (at least in part to avoid giving <a href=\"http:\/\/io9.com\/5429268\/avatar-havent-we-seen-this-james-cameron-film-before\/gallery\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">spoilers<\/a>), but presumably I can delight in the experience of seeing a gas giant up in the sky on this moon without being accused of giving anything substantial away.<\/div>\n<div style=\"border-bottom: medium none;border-left: medium none;border-right: medium none;border-top: medium none\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"border-bottom: medium none;border-left: medium none;border-right: medium none;border-top: medium none\">The religious background to the movie has been described as <a href=\"http:\/\/liberalpastor.blogspot.com\/2009\/12\/pantheism.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cpantheistic\u201d<\/a> but that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theofantastique.com\/2009\/12\/26\/avatar-probing-beyond-visuals-to-culture-and-identity\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">doesn\u2019t seem quite accurate<\/a>. It is closer to the outlook of the <a href=\"http:\/\/nah-then.blogspot.com\/2009\/12\/avatar.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Gaia<\/a> hypothesis, but the characters in the film recognize that the collective entity that Pandora seems to be is distinctive, and not typical of moons and planets more generally, or even of inhabited ones.<\/div>\n<div style=\"border-bottom: medium none;border-left: medium none;border-right: medium none;border-top: medium none\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"border-bottom: medium none;border-left: medium none;border-right: medium none;border-top: medium none\">Did you like Avatar?
