The Bizarro cartoon above<\/a> is a favorite of mine, and I have a copy I cut out from the newspaper on my office door. We actually had an interesting if brief discussion of the celebration of Christmas in public schools this evening at my\u00a0church (in the context of an activity involving Play-Doh which the pastor had planned). I for one don\u2019t understand why churches would fight the genuine secularization of schools and other government-affiliated public places. If Christmas celebrations are removed from schools, there are two natural places for people to turn to instead: the home\/family and churches. It seems to me that churches would be wiser (even from a purely selfish standpoint) to allow schools to be places where no religion is imposed, and then offer themselves (i.e. churches) as places where Christmas celebrations occur. Both the separation of church and state, and church attendance, could benefit from such an arrangement.<\/p>\n
