A couple of courses I teach, such as \u201cReligion and Science,\u201d count towards the Science, Technology, and Society program here at Butler University. And so I thought I ought to circulate this job advertisement connected with that program:<\/p>\n

Instructor<\/strong><\/p>\n

Science, Technology and Society Program<\/strong><\/p>\n

Butler University announces an Instructor position in its Science, Technology and Society (STS) program, beginning Fall 2014. The position is non-tenure track, with an initial contract of two years, and the possibility of reappointment. Teaching load is 12 hours per semester.<\/p>\n

We seek a broadly trained teacher-scholar who can teach lower and upper division courses in a range of areas within science and technology studies. There may also be teaching opportunities within Butler\u2019s core curriculum and honors program, as well as within other departments appropriate to the candidate\u2019s discipline. The successful candidate will have completed or nearly completed a Ph.D. either in an interdisciplinary science studies program, or in a social science discipline with an STS emphasis. Because Butler expects to launch an Environmental Studies program alongside the existing STS program, teaching and research interests connected with environmental studies are desirable. Evidence of success working with diverse populations of students as well as an interest in undergraduate research and community-based learning is a plus.<\/p>\n

Butler\u2019s STS program offers an innovative interdisciplinary major and minor that combine foundational courses in science and technology studies, a requirement for course work within STEM disciplines, and a range of electives that allow students to apply the theoretical approaches of STS to particular issues such as climate change, global health, or conservation.
