He shares the story of distributing a quiz on Greek words, most of which occur somewhere in the Greek Bible but not all of which are in the New Testament, at a conference. The quiz gave the English and asked for the person taking it to provide the <a href=\"http:\/\/evepheso.wordpress.com\/2011\/09\/10\/greek-pedagogy\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Greek<\/a>. The result was that no one got more than two of the ten correct. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/danielstreett.wordpress.com\/2011\/09\/12\/greek-professors-do-they-know-greek-basics-of-greek-pedagogy-pt-3\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Click through and see how you do<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I confess that for some time I have had as one of my goals to spend more time reading things in Greek besides the New Testament \u2013 Josephus and Philo in particular. But spending time working on Mandaic meant that I ended up doing far less reading in Greek than I hoped.<\/p>\n<p>For those who want to try making a stab at modern Greek, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0743552539\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=jamefmcgrshom-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=217145&amp;creative=399369&amp;creativeASIN=0743552539\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Pimsleur course<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=0743552539&amp;camp=217145&amp;creative=399369\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" style=\"border:none !important;margin:0px !important\"> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0071468358\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=jamefmcgrshom-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=217145&amp;creative=399373&amp;creativeASIN=0071468358\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Teach Yourself Greek Conversation<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=0071468358&amp;camp=217145&amp;creative=399373\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" style=\"border:none !important;margin:0px !important\"> are good places to start, since you can put them on in the car.<\/p>\n<p>What audiobooks are available of ancient Greek texts besides the New Testament?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacbee.com\/2011\/09\/08\/3893235\/announcing-publication-of-the.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">In almost entirely unrelated news, a recent article pointed out<\/a> that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newnewtestament.org\/Home_Page.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">a man named Ken Maley is producing the \u201cNew New Testament\u201d \u2013 in other words, rewriting it as he sees fit<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/robertcargill.com\/2011\/09\/13\/who-needs-the-new-testament-when-you-can-get-the-new-new-testament\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">See Bob Cargill\u2019s thoughts on the subject<\/a> and also <a href=\"http:\/\/zwingliusredivivus.wordpress.com\/2011\/09\/13\/the-most-dilettantish-of-all-dilettantes\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Jim West\u2019s brief mention<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/targuman.org\/blog\/2011\/09\/13\/the-drawback-of-digital-images-of-manuscripts\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">In actually somewhat related news, Chris Brady expresses appreciation for high quality digital images of manuscripts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And finally,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/comstock\/2011\/09\/quality-the-indispensable-word\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">the provost of Butler University has started a blog, asking in one of her first posts what makes quality education, and suggesting that access to higher education is going to be one of the next big civil rights issues<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Daniel Streett has posted again on the teaching and learning of New Testament Greek on his blog, \u03ba\u03b1\u1f76 \u03c4\u1f70 \u03bb\u03bf\u03b9\u03c0\u03ac.
