I finished reading John Walton\u2019s <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0830837043?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=jamefmcgrshom-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=0830837043\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Lost World of Genesis One<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"1\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=jamefmcgrshom-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=0830837043\" width=\"1\" border=\"0\"><\/em> some time ago, but having decided to blog about each chapter, it will take some time to finish.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve been reading Martin Zemmit\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/1593333463?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=jamefmcgrshom-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=1593333463\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><em>`Enbe men Karmo Suryoyo (Bunches of Grapes from the Syriac Vineyard) \u2013 A Syriac Chrestomathy<\/em><\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"1\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=jamefmcgrshom-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=1593333463\" width=\"1\" border=\"0\">, which Gorgias Press kindly sent me a copy of. It provides a nice, well-rounded reader in Syriac that will allow relative novices not only to stretch themselves but to encounter short excerpts that include particularly useful vocabulary on specific topics often encountered in ancient Syriac and other Aramaic texts, for instance astrology. Since the reader provides a range of excerpts from a variety of genres of literature touching on a range of subjects, and so will be of interest to those already proficient in Syriac as well. I\u2019m looking forward to finishing reading it and blogging about it in the near future.<\/p>\n<p>In today\u2019s mail, a free copy of a volume I\u2019ve been looking forward to reading arrived in the mail from InterVarsity Press: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0830838686?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=jamefmcgrshom-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=0830838686\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><em>The Historical Jesus: Five Views<\/em><\/a><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"1\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=jamefmcgrshom-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=0830838686\" width=\"1\" border=\"0\"><\/em>. In the past I\u2019ve found books like this one, which present a number of different perspectives on a topic with opportunity for each contributor to respond to the others, to be very helpful. I\u2019ve also read quite a bit of Mark Noll\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0830828478?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=jamefmcgrshom-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=0830828478\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><em>The New Shape of World Christianity<\/em><\/a><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"1\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=jamefmcgrshom-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=0830828478\" width=\"1\" border=\"0\"><\/em>, which IVP sent me a gratis copy of a while back.
