On the one hand, if one considers the parallel terminology of \u201cart\u201d, \u201cartist\u201d and \u201cartistic\u201d, then presumably a \u201cdeuteronomist\u201d would be one creates \u201cDeuteronomy\u201d (or \u201cworks of deuteronomy\u201d), and these results would themselves be \u201cdeuteronomistic\u201d.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, if one considers parallels such as \u201cautism\u201d and \u201cautistic\u201d, one might easily conclude that \u201cdeuteronomistic\u201d means \u201csuffering from deuteronomism\u201d. Or, for a more positive parallel, we could look at \u201coptimism\u201d, and then might say that the author of the Former Prophets was \u201cincurably deuteronomistic\u201d in outlook.<\/p>\n
So I\u2019m going with \u201cDeuteronomic History\u201d for now, although there are obviously other verbs and adjectives we could create that might be appropriate. For instance, if the author of Joshua-2 Kings used extensive earlier sources and was much more of a compiler-editor than author, then we might talk of the \u201cdeuteronomization\u201d of those sources. The result would presumably be deemed \u201cdeuteronomatop\u0153ia\u201d \u2013 something that sounds like, or more precisely, something that makes the same sound as, Deuteronomy.<\/p>\n
