For those who may not be aware of these aspects of academia, or live in a country where the ranks have different titles, in the United States the system is as follows. The tenure track usually involves being at the rank of assistant professor up until one applies for promotion and tenure in one\u2019s sixth year. The next rank is associate professor. From there, one can be promoted after another six years to the rank of professor. It is a recognition that one has continued to develop one\u2019s teaching, scholarship, and service both within and beyond the university.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019d like to thank blog readers for lots of encouragement and support over these past years, as I\u2019ve floated ideas and blogged about research and teaching.
