First, the funny part. In an earlier version of the announcement on my church website about Holy Week events<\/a>, it said of the lunchtime Good Friday service:<\/p>\n

The theme for the service will focus on the stations of the cross and will feature medications from several local pastors.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
If you are not sure why that is funny, please reread it carefully, and compare it with the final version.<\/p>\n
On a somber note, Crooked Creek Baptist Church will be hosting the Life After Pain African Conference<\/a>, sponsored by Grace Tabernacle Church, a community of Congolese refugees. One of the speakers will be Rose Mapendo<\/a>. More details about next week\u2019s events follow below the video.<\/p>\n<\/iframe>\n\u00a0<\/p>\nMaundy Thursday Service:\u00a0 April 17 at 7:00 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\nThis service will be a special service featuring a \u201cTime of Remembrance\u201d\u00a0 We will share communion in this service that should run around an hour in length.<\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\nGood Friday Community Service:\u00a0 April 18 at 12 noon<\/strong><\/p>\nThis community Good Friday service will be hosted by Crooked Creek Baptist and will focus on the stations of the cross.\u00a0 Several local churches will be participating in this service.\u00a0 The theme for the service will focus on the stations of the cross and will feature meditations from several local pastors.\u00a0 This service is designed to accommodate those who will be on their lunch hour this day.<\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n\u201cLife After Pain\u201d African Conference:\u00a0 April 19 5-8 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\nGrace Tabernacle\u00a0is inviting our community to join them for part of their conference on Saturday evening.\u00a0 The event kicks off at five with a special worship service that will feature a large choir of refugees from places such as the Congo, Rwanda, and Burundi.\u00a0 Testimony will be shared from Pastor Emmanuel Musinga and Ms. Rose Mapendo.\u00a0 A link to her life story is here:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rappler.com\/entertainment\/32287-pushing-the-elephant-rose-mapendo\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Rose Mapendo: A refugee\u2019s story<\/a><\/p>\nThe service will be in English (with translation provided for those who need it) and will also offer a special dinner following worship.<\/p>\nI encourage you to make plans to attend this event.\u00a0 The story of people such as Rose Mapendo and Emmanuel Musinga are inspiring as one considers the injustice and oppression they have endured in light of their current call for peace and reconciliation.<\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\nEaster Services:\u00a0 April 20<\/strong><\/p>\n9:00 a.m.\u00a0 Easter Breakfast:\u00a0<\/strong> You and your family are invited to join us for a special breakfast meal that will be co-served by Crooked Creek Baptist AND Grace Tabernacle.<\/p>\n10:00 a.m.\u00a0 NOTE THE SPECIAL WORSHIP TIME!!!<\/strong><\/p>\nWe will offer a special worship service that will feature a special African choir in the service.\u00a0 This should be a great opportunity to share with friends and relatives the blessings of being a part of the Crooked Creek Baptist fellowship.<\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"First, the funny part.
