Either it allows the writers to tell a back-story that is necessary in order to resolve mysteries from earlier seasons without simply dropping the characters that we\u2019ve come to know and love, or it is something that was planned from the beginning and these characters\u2019 involvement in the past is crucial to understanding what happened to them up until now. Either way it is a brilliant move.
