I am working on finishing an article on the burial of Jesus for the Encyclopedia of the Bible and its Reception<\/a> (in fact, the section I\u2019m responsible for is that on the reception of the material in Christianity in modern Europe and America<\/em>). Some mention of the painting<\/a> by Hans Holbein the Younger that made such an impression<\/a> on Dostoyevsky<\/a> (so much so that he incorporated it into The Idiot<\/em><\/a>) seems appropriate. <\/div>\n

I\u2019m finding it something of a nuisance that the painting is referred to<\/a> in English in a number of different ways. I\u2019ve seen it referred to as The Body of the Dead Christ in the Tomb<\/a> <\/em>and as Christ Taken From The Cross<\/em><\/a>, as well as in other ways. I don\u2019t suppose that there are any readers with a greater degree of knowledge of art history, who might have some additional advice to offer on this subject? Other thoughts and suggestions related to the Western reception of the burial of Jesus are also welcome.<\/div>\n
