But\u00a0having found that there were few songs actually\u00a0<em>about<\/em> monotheism, and that subject being a scholarly research interest of mine, I did take a stab at writing a song\u00a0which explores the progression through different kinds of monotheisms \u2013 exclusive, inclusive, and mystical.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m not entirely satisfied with the result, even\u00a0after tinkering with and trying to improve on the original lyrics I came up with. But here it is, such as it is. Lyrics follow below.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Only God<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>VERSE 1<\/p>\n<p>I come with my sword outstretched<\/p>\n<p>And a book in hand<\/p>\n<p>In the name of God<\/p>\n<p>There can be only one<\/p>\n<p>So prepare to bow<\/p>\n<p>And come follow me<\/p>\n<p>CHORUS<\/p>\n<p>Only one God<\/p>\n<p>Only one way<\/p>\n<p>Only one nation<\/p>\n<p>Only one king<\/p>\n<p>The logic is clear<\/p>\n<p>We can\u2019t both be right<\/p>\n<p>Accept what I say<\/p>\n<p>Or stand up and fight<\/p>\n<p>You will see the light<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m armed with the might<\/p>\n<p>Of the only God<\/p>\n<p>VERSE 2<\/p>\n<p>I come with my hand outstretched<\/p>\n<p>To the one in need<\/p>\n<p>In the name of God<\/p>\n<p>If there is only one<\/p>\n<p>Then all humankind<\/p>\n<p>Must be his concern<\/p>\n<p>CHORUS<\/p>\n<p>Only one God<\/p>\n<p>Father of all<\/p>\n<p>Only one family<\/p>\n<p>Only one call<\/p>\n<p>The logic is clear<\/p>\n<p>There is no other<\/p>\n<p>Only one God<\/p>\n<p>Makes us sisters and brothers<\/p>\n<p>One family<\/p>\n<p>All children of<\/p>\n<p>The only God<\/p>\n<p>VERSE 3<\/p>\n<p>I come to lose myself<\/p>\n<p>To be found in you<\/p>\n<p>Beyond names of God<\/p>\n<p>There can be nothing else<\/p>\n<p>You are all and all<\/p>\n<p>You are everything<\/p>\n<p>CHORUS<\/p>\n<p>Only one God<\/p>\n<p>We cannot grasp<\/p>\n<p>Infinite, boundless<\/p>\n<p>First and the last<\/p>\n<p>The logic is clear<\/p>\n<p>Though we can\u2019t perceive<\/p>\n<p>Beyond all concepts that<\/p>\n<p>We can conceive<\/p>\n<p>When all else fades<\/p>\n<p>What will remain?<\/p>\n<p>Only God<\/p>\n<p>(c) James F.
