In my first year seminar class \u201cFaith, Doubt, and Reason,\u201d\u00a0students read part of Genesis and the Euthyphro dialogue before being asked in an assignment to retell the Abraham story, putting themselves in Abraham\u2019s shoes and wrestling with the question of what makes actions morals. This semester, I had a student start the\u00a0dialogue this way:<\/p>\n
Socrates: Abraham, what brings you to court today?<\/p>\n
Abraham: I tried to kill my son, Isaac.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
I thought that was a brilliant weaving together of the two stories. My favorite part of the dialogue was this:<\/p>\n
Abraham: You ask too many questions Socrates.<\/p>\n
Socrates: You don\u2019t ask enough questions Abraham.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
I really appreciate how the student managed to \u201cget in character\u201d for both Abraham and Socrates.<\/p>\n
