Burton labelled it as comparing a good student to a smart one, but Arni interpreted it in terms of \u201creligion and science.\u201d What does it suggest to you?<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/c0573862.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com\/1\/0\/4899\/832787\/good_or_smart_final1.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/c0573862.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com\/1\/0\/4899\/832787\/good_or_smart_final1.jpg\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p>The cartoon originally appeared accompanying an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/12\/05\/opinion\/l05educ.html?_r=1&amp;ref=opinion\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">op-ed in the New York Times<\/a> about how students are rewarded (or not) for effort, meeting deadlines, etc.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0I can think of at least two other things the cartoon might suggest. On the one hand, I notice that the religious individual\u2019s hair is standing on end. While it might just be due to significant amounts of gel, it could also illustrate the heart of the \u201creligious sense\u201d \u2013 which a great many scientists share \u2013 as <i>awe<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>But his hair standing on end could also indicate that the other guy was carrying a static charge and just shocked him\u2026<\/p>\n<div class=\"blogger-post-footer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" src=\"https:\/\/blogger.googleusercontent.com\/tracker\/7622297540113836091-640357304585773612?l=exploringourmatrix.blogspot.com\" alt=\"\"><\/div>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Arni Zachariassen shared a cartoon from Mikey Burton.
