There\u2019s a mention of a new book on the blog What\u2019s New in Papyrology<\/a>: Multitextuality in the Homeric Iliad: The Witness of Ptolemaic Papyri<\/em><\/a>\u00a0by Graeme D. Bird.\"\"<\/span><\/p>\n

The book\u2019s\u00a0focus relates to a\u00a0topic that interests me and many other New Testament scholars and students, namely what it means to take seriously the oral\u00a0composition\u00a0and oral context of many of the texts we study. In this case, Bird connects diversity in manuscripts of the Illiad with the question of whether there was \u201cno original\u201d that it makes sense to speak of. Oral compositions\u00a0are inevitably characterized by fixity and fluidity, but in this case we may have textual evidence.<\/p>\n
