Dan McClellan drew the cartoon above and shared it on Twitter<\/a>. It illustrates the reason why\u00a0it is important to\u00a0not respond to intolerance with intolerance. It is self-defeating. If we hate all those who fit into a category with terrorists, then the claim of the terrorists that we are against their people becomes true, even if it wasn\u2019t before, and serves to foster their aim of recruiting more people to their cause.<\/p>\n

Martin Luther King Day is next Monday. And so let\u2019s recall these insightful words of his:<\/p>\n

The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral,\u00a0begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy.
\nInstead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it.
\nThrough violence you may murder the liar,
\nbut you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth.
\nThrough violence you may murder the hater,
\nbut you do not murder hate.
\nIn fact, violence merely increases hate.
\nSo it goes.
\nReturning violence for violence multiplies violence,
\nadding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars.
\nDarkness cannot drive out darkness:
\nonly light can do that.
\nHate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.
