This is a case of someone saying something which is not merely an error, but indicates clearly that they are making things up and have no idea what they are talking about. This isn\u2019t a \u201cblunder,\u201d it is evidence that Steve Emerson\u00a0willfully and deliberately\u00a0asserts things for which he has no evidence. There is no other explanation. You don\u2019t have to know much about Birmingham to find this laughable.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m trying to think of a way to work a\u00a0discussion of this into my \u201cSpeaking about Religion\u201d class, in a manner that doesn\u2019t simply involve pointing and laughing, but something more substantive that can help with learning fact-checking skills that can be applied to more subtle instances of nonsense and deliberate deception.<\/p>\n<p>The outburst of mockery that has filled <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/foxnewsfacts\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Twitter<\/a> has used the hashtag <a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/uk\/foxnewsfacts-twitter-users-react-with-aplomb-to-news-that-birmingham-is-a-nogo-zone-for-nonmuslims-9971829.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">#FoxNewsFacts<\/a>. Scare quotes don\u2019t work well in a hashtag, but even though you can\u2019t see them around the word \u201cfacts,\u201d they are there.<\/p>\n<p>In the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/worldnews\/northamerica\/usa\/11339077\/The-truth-about-Birmingham-foxnewsfacts.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><em>Telegraph<\/em>\u2018s round-up<\/a> of some of the hilarious tweets,\u00a0I noticed that Daleks had made their way into the fray:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-28162\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/exploringourmatrix\/files\/2015\/01\/Fox-News-Facts-Daleks.jpg\" alt=\"Fox News Facts Daleks\" width=\"423\" height=\"435\"><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019ve been wanting to blog about the hilariously\u00a0idiotic suggestion, made by someone purportedly an expert on Fox News, that Birmingham is a\u00a0city inhabited only by Muslims, with non-Muslims simply not going there.
