Then <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stufffundieslike.com\/2015\/05\/english\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">they shared this<\/a>\u00a0doctrinal statement from Cornerstone Independent Baptist Church:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-30101\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/exploringourmatrix\/files\/2015\/05\/english-bible.jpg\" alt=\"english bible\" width=\"481\" height=\"100\"><\/p>\n<p>Some will think this represent faithfulness to the Bible and to God. But I hope most readers can see it for what it really is: an arbitrary assertion that one\u2019s preferred translation of the Bible is itself divinely revealed, so that one\u00a0can sidestep difficult questions of evidence, of scholarship, and so on.<\/p>\n<p>Ironically, there were those who claimed something similar\u00a0for the Septuagint, the Greek translation of the Hebrew Scriptures. They didn\u2019t have the audacity to claim that the Greek now supersedes the Hebrew, but they tried to give the impression that the translation itself was inspired and so on a par with the Hebrew text of which it was supposed to be a translation.<\/p>\n<p>But perhaps most\u00a0offensive is the ethnocentrism: declaring one\u2019s own language the \u201cuniversal language\u201d of the \u201clast days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I thought that the view of the King James Version of the Bible that Stuff Fundies Like shared\u00a0last week was extreme.
