The context is a university that does not have a religious affiliation, although many students obviously do.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m tempted to just tell them to pick a commentary from a list \u2013 one that would probably include authors such as Kysar, Lindars, Brown, Talbert, Witherington, Keener, Neyrey. It just seems difficult to find <em>one<\/em> that is an obvious best choice and is still in print. There are some very strong overviews or introductions \u2013 those by Brown or Kysar, for instance \u2013 but I\u2019d prefer to use a commentary which can introduce key issues of authorship, context, and interpretation, and then continue to serve as a guide as students read through the Gospel and discuss it in class.<\/p>\n<p>Any suggestions?<\/p>\n<p>For my religion and science fiction course I am probably going to put together a reader for the secondary literature \u2013 there is no one book currently in print that covers the range of topics and stories\/shows that the course will touch on. I could get them to read <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0813341159?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=jamefmcgrshom-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=0813341159\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Religions Of Star Trek<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"1\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=jamefmcgrshom-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=0813341159\" width=\"1\" border=\"0\"><\/i>, perhaps, but I\u2019m not sure we\u2019ll spend long enough on Star Trek (or any other single show) to justify reading a whole book on one show\/topic. And there are so many actual fiction novels and stories that could be interesting.
