I shared the above Ziggy cartoon\u00a0once before<\/a>. But having happened across it again, I was struck by the subversive message of the\u00a0cartoon. An alien that looks like an angel talks to Ziggy, a human, and then\u00a0expresses amazement to another of his alien race at the cosmology\u00a0humans have come up with. The reference is presumably to a religious system that views these aliens as supernatural beings, messengers of the divine.<\/p>\n

I think the \u201cancient aliens\u201d idea is so popular precisely because it provides a way to keep \u201cangels\u201d and \u201cgods\u201d within the framework of a scientific cosmology.<\/p>\n

But I suspect that anyone looking back on the \u201cancient aliens\u201d idea from the perspective of our distant future will likewise scoff at the cosmology some had come up with.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
