It pokes fun at the way women are depicted in artistic renditions of Solomon and his wives. For one example, it gives the painting below with the added caption shown:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-31535\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/exploringourmatrix\/files\/2015\/08\/Solomon-tempted-by-wives.png\" alt=\"Solomon tempted by wives\" width=\"540\" height=\"481\"><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/the-toast.net\/2015\/08\/25\/king-solomon-getting-peer-pressured-by-his-babely-wives\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Click through<\/a> for more examples, as well as the funny introduction.<\/p>\n<p>There are serious things that may be worth talking about, too. The way that patriarchal societies\u00a0keep women alienated from the reins of power, and then present even their influence as something to watch out for, ought to disturb us. The close connection between such patriarchy and the elimination of the female divine in ancient Israel could also be explored.<\/p>\n<p>But given that the article compares\u00a0the Bible\u2019s \u201cDon\u2019t worship Asherah\u201d message to \u201cDon\u2019t do drugs\u201d messages in the present day, perhaps it would be even more interesting to explore the role of\u00a0<em>peer pressure<\/em> in people maintaining faith, switching faiths, abandoning and\/or finding faith?<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m pretty sure it wasn\u2019t like\u00a0<em>this<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-31538\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/exploringourmatrix\/files\/2015\/08\/All-the-other-Canaanite-nations-have-Asherah-poles.png\" alt=\"All the other Canaanite nations have Asherah poles\" width=\"510\" height=\"517\"><\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I had a piece\u00a0on the website \u201cThe Toast\u201d drawn to my attention.
