The book If Eve Only Knew: Freeing Yourself from Biblical Womanhood and Becoming All God Means for You to Be<\/a>\"\"<\/em> is now available, and I wanted to draw attention to that fact. I mentioned the book when I reviewed another book,\u00a0Damaged Goods<\/em>.\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0Here\u2019s what I wrote as an endorsement:<\/p>\n

\u201cThis new book by Irons and Mock tackles the Biblical and contemporary aspects of Evangelicalism and other conservative strands of Christianity which denigrate and subordinate women. Not only do they succeed in showing that the Bible often does not say what conservatives claim, but they also show that their notions of modesty and purity originated much more recently than in Biblical times. The toxic effects of these allegedly Biblical views, which are used to silence and control others, is exposed. The message of\u00a0<\/span>If Eve Only Knew\u00a0<\/i>needs to be heard far and wide, for the sake of not only women but people of all genders who are being misled by harmful teachings masquerading as Biblical truth. The information in this book probably won\u2019t bring an end to patriarchy and oppression, but it should at least make more people aware that those who justify their view of male superiority as simply \u2018what the Bible says\u2019 are in fact ignoring and distorting the Bible left, right, and center.\u201d \u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The book is less than $5 for Kindle via Amazon<\/a> at the moment, and so if you are interested in the subject, it might be a good idea to get a copy now, since I can\u2019t imagine that that price will stay the same indefinitely. The publisher\u2019s website<\/a> has the digital list price as $12.50.<\/p>\n
