McGrath.\u201d In the article, Gagnon makes the unsubstantiated accusation that \u201cliberal\u201d institutions penalize conservative scholars for doing genuine research (the scare quotes are also his and also unjustified). Ironically, Gagnon teaches at a seminary which embraces his stance as well as that of others who disagree with him. In the Spring 2011 issue of the seminary\u2019s magazine\u00a0<em>Panorama<\/em>, one of his fellow professors wrote, \u201cThe faculty of Pittsburgh\u00a0Theological Seminary disagrees about many important contemporary\u00a0issues, such as homosexuality\u2026\u201d (p.3).<\/p>\n<p>Gagnon apparently\u00a0views the liberality of his own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcusa.org\/news\/2015\/3\/17\/presbyterian-church-us-approves-marriage-amendment\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">denomination<\/a> and institution with\u00a0disdain even while expressing himself freely without recriminations from them. In his article, Gagnon\u00a0also refers to\u00a0marriage equality as \u201cunconstitutional.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There is definitely an irony about Gagnon\u2019s presenting himself as a defender of morality, while quoting something I said in a Facebook group without even seeking my permission to do so, never mind obtaining it. But perhaps that fits naturally with his view of sexuality as about the \u201cCreator\u2019s intentional design\u201d and having no place for\u00a0that modern liberal concern about equality, respect, and above all else\u00a0<em>consent<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t think his article will do\u00a0anything to persuade anyone to adopt his point of view\u00a0\u2013 but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.firstthings.com\/web-exclusives\/2015\/09\/fuller-seminary-takes-a-stand\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">give it a read<\/a> if you want to see for yourself.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A recent article by Robert Gagnon is the only occurrence on the internet of the phrase \u201ca certain James F.
