No one who has read things I\u2019ve written \u2013 or listened to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4ZO5DSG3OiU\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">things I\u2019ve said<\/a> \u2013 would ever believe that I claimed that the Gospels have\u00a0<em>no<\/em> symbolic stories in them, when I have so <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/religionprof\/2015\/05\/fact-checking-fables.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">often<\/a> said the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.earlychristianwritings.com\/info\/john-food.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">opposite<\/a>. The infancy stories (which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/religionprof\/2012\/12\/why-im-glad-matthews-infancy-narrative-isnt-literally-true.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">I\u2019ve discussed before<\/a>)\u00a0in the Gospels\u00a0are just\u00a0that \u2013 and are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/religionprof\/2013\/09\/andrew-lincoln-born-of-a-virgin.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">much like the infancy stories told about other historical figures<\/a> besides Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>But people who have read what I have written are presumably not Carrier\u2019s intended audience.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m guessing that the criticisms I\u2019ve offered in my recent articles must be too damaging to mythicism\u00a0for Carrier\u00a0to respond to them in a manner that is professional, scholarly, and fair,\u00a0so that instead he is resorting to deception and expletives. But goodness me, if you can\u2019t deal with criticism in a rational and mature manner, you really shouldn\u2019t try to produce something that even pretends to be scholarship, never mind the actual thing.<\/p>\n<p>It has been an interesting day \u2013 two people have ranted about me online, with fundamentalist complaints, yet from opposite sides of the spectrum!<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It is ironic that Richard Carrier\u2019s blog post which accuses me of lying about his work blatantly misrepresents what I wrote.
