Dustin Smith has offered a response<\/a> to Mike Bird\u2019s recent post about Mark\u2019s Christology<\/a>. We also got a quote from Daniel Kirk<\/a> which addressed Bird\u2019s claims even before he made them.<\/p>\n

Someone suggested that that might place Daniel among the Prophets<\/a>, but historically he has been included among\u00a0the Writings\u2026<\/p>\n

I am starting to think that, if I ever write a second edition of The Only True God<\/em><\/a>, or a different larger book on Christology, I will need to\u00a0spend time on the Synoptic Gospels. The challenge is that those works simply don\u2019t say anything about Jesus being pre-existent or God, and so it is harder to write about silences than about what is said. Perhaps what is needed is\u00a0more along the lines of what Daniel Kirk has been working on\u00a0\u2013 a fuller exploration of what the Synoptic Gospels\u00a0do<\/em> say, which is a depiction of a fully human Jesus who functions as God\u2019s agent.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile,\u00a0Mike Bird mentions an event<\/a> at which he and Bart Ehrman will be among those discussing this sort of topic. And Christianity Today<\/em><\/a> explained that many Evangelicals fear engaging in scholarship precisely because, when done honestly, it can lead to conclusions that one set out hoping to avoid drawing.<\/p>\n
