It struck me, in discussing the flap about Donald Trump saying \u201cTwo Corinthians\u201d<\/a> rather than \u201cSecond Corinthians,\u201d the reaction says a lot about conservative Evangelicalism. Conservative and fundamentalist\u00a0Evangelicals\u00a0will react more strongly\u00a0to how you refer to the Bible, than to a betrayal of the Bible\u2019s moral teachings.<\/p>\n

And hence my paraphrase of Jesus\u2019 saying about straining out a gnat (to avoid impurity) and yet swallowing a camel, which has a pun in Aramaic, and which is about focusing on minutiae while ignoring weightier matters.<\/p>\n

And of course, there are other puns that one can make\u2026<\/p>\n
