In exploring the Naxos music database\u2019s new releases,\u00a0I discovered Geoffrey Burgon\u2019s\u00a0Requiem. Burgon is known for TV soundtracks (including Doctor Who<\/a>) and film score work, such as on Monty Python\u2019s The Life of Brian<\/a>. I read the conference volume that looked at Jesus and Brian<\/a>,\u00a0but although the music was mentioned, no one seems to have focused attention on the fact that the composer, Geoffrey Burgon, had also composed sacred music.<\/p>\n I am planning to teach\u00a0a course on the Bible and music in the near future, and so I am now considering focusing in on this interesting example of intersection between Biblical reception in Biblical parody\u00a0and in sacred music. For instance, here is his Nunc Dimittis \u2013 which\u00a0was also used as the end credits for Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy:<\/p>\n
