I would comment that, even if the colleague is right, to be unable to separate the two need not mean that one\u2019s faith tradition is allowed to override critical\/academic methods. It is possible instead to be a person of faith but to accept that, in light of critical study of the Bible, you will have to change your mind about many things you once assumed. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.insidehighered.com\/views\/mclemee\/mclemee324\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><em>Inside Higher Ed<\/em> turns its eye to the King James Version of the Bible<\/a>, which is currently getting much attention since <a href=\"http:\/\/kjv400.co.uk\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">this year is the 400th anniversary of its publication<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Rod of Alexandria suggests that, because\u00a0the Bible is inherently religious,\u00a0it <a href=\"http:\/\/politicaljesus.com\/2011\/02\/15\/biblepublicschools\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">should not be in public school curricula<\/a> even as literature.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/danutm.wordpress.com\/2011\/02\/16\/mohler-on-baptist-biblical-illiteracy\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">D\u0103nu\u0163 M\u0103n\u0103stireanu shares some quotes from Al Mohler<\/a>, who is right that most Christians don\u2019t know the Bible in much depth or detail, but wrong if he things that greater familiarity will not likely lead people to ask more difficult questions, rather than simply feel like they have discovered answers. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tabletmag.com\/arts-and-culture\/books\/58882\/known-and-unknown\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Adam Kirsch has an article on this tubject in <em>Tablet<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Arni Zachariassen talks about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arnizachariassen.com\/ithinkibelieve\/?p=1810&amp;utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+IThinkIBelieve+%28I+Think+I+Believe%29&amp;utm_content=Google+Reader\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">creationism, cosmetic surgery, and toxic dichotomies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Otagosh shares <a href=\"http:\/\/otagosh.blogspot.com\/2011\/02\/when-i-was-child-i-spoke-as-child.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">a quote about growing up and the God of one\u2019s childhood<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>J. It contains <a href=\"http:\/\/vridar.wordpress.com\/2011\/02\/16\/did-no-one-know-about-the-gospels-before-half-way-through-the-second-century\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">two quotes from Justin Martyr<\/a> the wording of which had slipped my mind,\u00a0and which\u00a0may provide indication that Justin was aware primarily of the story in the <a href=\"http:\/\/exploringourmatrix.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/how-did-marks-gospel-originally-end.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Gospel of Mark<\/a> \u2013 and perhaps its <a href=\"http:\/\/exploringourmatrix.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/more-on-marks-missing-ending.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">missing ending<\/a> \u2013 whether in written form or orally. That version of events, in which the disciples disperse and return to Galilee,\u00a0and only regather later after some sort of religious experience, is <a href=\"http:\/\/exploringourmatrix.blogspot.com\/2007\/11\/how-marks-gospel-originally-ended.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">hinted at in Mark and in John 21 and found in the Gospel of Peter<\/a>.
