It is a good day in the world when a Midwest state\u2019s voter ID law makes the front page, I presume. That requiring people to show that they are who they say they are, when it doesn\u2019t cost them anything, should have to go before the Supreme Court seems a waste of taxpayers\u2019 money. Then again, one has to deal with the BMV to get a free ID, and so perhaps <em>that<\/em> could be challenged as a form of cruel and unusual punishment\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere on the web, John Pieret continues to follow <a href=\"http:\/\/dododreams.blogspot.com\/2008\/04\/true-lies.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">what is going on with <em>Expelled<\/em><\/a>. The <a href=\"http:\/\/pandasthumb.org\/archives\/2008\/04\/compulsory-curr.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Panda\u2019s Thumb<\/a> points to a blog entry on <a href=\"http:\/\/sandefur.typepad.com\/freespace\/2008\/04\/compulsory-curr.html#more\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">the constitutionality of curricula<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/pandasthumb.org\/archives\/2008\/04\/a-blood-libel-o.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">also to<\/a> a conservative commentator\u2019s critique of <em>Expelled <\/em>and the <a href=\"http:\/\/article.nationalreview.com\/?q=ZGYwMzdjOWRmNGRhOWQ4MTQyZDMxNjNhYTU1YTE5Njk=&amp;w=MA\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">fundamental dishonesty of creationism<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.energionpubs.com\/wordpress\/?p=1306\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Henry Neufeld<\/a> mentions this last one too). See also <a href=\"http:\/\/scienceavenger.blogspot.com\/2008\/04\/ben-steins-lunacy-and-hypocrisy-laid.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Science Avenger<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/openparachute.wordpress.com\/2008\/04\/30\/is-expelled-successful\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Open Parachute<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/austringer.net\/wp\/index.php\/2008\/04\/28\/the-transmigration-of-erv\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">ERV<\/a> apparently had the same sort of experience that Jim West had, although in this case it was perhaps a malicious complaint rather than hacking. I\u2019d recommend that anyone with a Blogger blog make a backup copy. Use a program like Offline Explorer. Then go welcome ERV to its <a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/erv\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">new location<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A student of mine has posted <a href=\"http:\/\/secher-nbiw.blogspot.com\/2008\/04\/christian-tolerance-pauls-message-to.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">a book review of Robert Jewett\u2019s <em>Christian Tolerance: Paul\u2019s Message to the Modern Church<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>IO9 suggests we might survive the next apocalypse, since we <a href=\"http:\/\/io9.com\/384844\/the-ancient-apocalypse\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">survived the last one<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thinkchristian.net\/index.php\/2008\/04\/28\/rapture-index\/?disqus_reply=391515#dsq-message\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Think Christian<\/a> wonders what you make of the <a href=\"http:\/\/raptureready.com\/rap2.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Rapture Index<\/a>. I think it proves that it isn\u2019t just in science that fundamentalist Christianity\u2019s reality is so ridiculous that it is hard to parody. I say this as someone who would once upon a time have taken the rapture index very seriously.
