Today in my class on Paul\u2019s letters<\/a> we discussed the passage where Paul tells the Corinthians to hand a particular individual over to Satan<\/a>. Here\u2019s what one student blogged about it<\/a> (developing further on a comment she made in class):<\/p>\n

1 Corinthians 4:5. \u201c\u2026you are to deliver this man to Satan 4 for the destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord.\u201d<\/p>\n

Paul suggests giving people over to Satan for the destruction of their flesh, so that their spirit can be saved. I was struck by this. Satan is surprisingly helpful here; you can count on him to do you favors.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve got this guy, and he\u2019s kind of corrupt. Ah\u2026. if you could take him and give him back when he\u2019s better\u2026 yeah. That\u2019d be great. Right, also, if you could come in on Saturday to take away our incestuous pagans? Greeaaat.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
