Matthew seems to have thought the earth was <em>flat<\/em>, even though by his time the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.luminarium.org\/encyclopedia\/medievalcosmology.htm\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Greeks<\/a> had made some progress in detecting the spherical form of the earth. The idea of multiple heavens above and around the earth is found in Paul\u2019s writings, and is more naturally a part of the Ptolemaic cosmology than the earlier <a href=\"http:\/\/gbgm-umc.org\/umw\/bible\/wv-ot2.stm\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">three-tiered<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ucth.org\/2008\/01\/creation_doodle.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">view of the universe<\/a> that Matthew seems to assume here. Is there any mountain from which one can see the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Antipodes\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">antipodes<\/a>?
