I am so grateful to the Times of Israel<\/em> for the chance to record this conversation with Amanda Borschel-Dan about my new book, What Jesus Learned from Women<\/em><\/a>. It was great to talk with someone, with a particular audience in view, that really knows what it means to talk about Jewish mothers and their influence on their sons!<\/p>\n

<\/iframe><\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/1532680619?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=&linkCode=li2&tag=jamefmcgrshom-20&linkId=d62305e5ddfa4ca541d1e0e3ccfe952a&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_il\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\" decorated-link\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"\/\/ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/widgets\/q?_encoding=UTF8&ASIN=1532680619&Format=_SL160_&ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=US&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=jamefmcgrshom-20&language=en_US\" border=\"0\"><\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;\" src=\"https:\/\/ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/e\/ir?t=jamefmcgrshom-20&language=en_US&l=li2&o=1&a=1532680619\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\">What Jesus Learned from Women<\/em> is already beginning to be listed in a number of online booksellers and even some local bookstores, including some that are familiar to readers of theology and other church-related book topics such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cokesbury.com\/9781532680601-What-Jesus-Learned-from-Women\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Cokesbury<\/a>. The latter has it with a discount! It also <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3lxl0h6\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">now available from Amazon in hardcover<\/a>.<\/p>\nThe Gospel Coalition is a group that I thought might respond negatively to my book, even based on its title. I was thus pleasantly surprised to have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegospelcoalition.org\/article\/jesus-high-priest-training\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">a new article of theirs drawn to my attention, on precisely the topic of Jesus learning<\/a>!<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.postost.net\/2021\/03\/review-jennifer-butler-who-stole-my-bible\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\" decorated-link\">Andrew Perriman\u2019s review of Jennifer Butler\u2019s Who Stole My Bible?<\/i><\/a> highlights the book\u2019s focus on women in the Gospels.<\/p>\nIf you want a clear sense of why I believe this book was necessary, a <a href=\"https:\/\/ibr-bbr.org\/job\/bethlehem-college-seminary-minneapolis-full-time-faculty-position-in-biblical-and-theological-studies\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">job advertisement for John Piper\u2019s institution<\/a> kind of says it all. The job listing says \u201cThe candidate will be a man of sincere Christian faith, personal integrity, and commitment to the doctrine and vision of Bethlehem College & Seminary.\u201d Yes, you read that right. It isn\u2019t really surprising if you know this branch of conservative Christianity, but sometimes things can be astonishing and unsurprising, startling and expected, at the same time. The doctrinal commitment, in case you were wondering, is a 50-page document.<\/p>\nAlso related:<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/gervatoshav.blogspot.com\/2021\/02\/on-jesus-address-to-god-as-father-and.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Jesus\u2019 use of Abba in context<\/a><\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/christiancitizen.us\/preach-like-a-girl\/?fbclid=IwAR1xTbu2bV-Wbtc--TLxkRCmllKso-ebOXNZVXprYHCwVmp-H13kN4NVSAo\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Rev. Susan Sparks has shared an at once heartbreaking and inspiring account of her call to ministry and the attempts of patriarchal Christians to stamp it out<\/a>.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/ancientimes.blogspot.com\/2021\/03\/egalitarianism-and-domestic-violence-in.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Egalitarianism and domestic violence in the ancient world<\/a><\/p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/enochseminar.org\/review\/20434\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Joshua Scott reviewed\u00a0Jesus in the First Three Centuries<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/ehrmanblog.org\/the-doctrine-of-the-trinity-where-we-are-so-far\/?utm_source=feedly&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-doctrine-of-the-trinity-where-we-are-so-far\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Bart Ehrman regularly blogs about Christology and related topics<\/a>. He recently shared <a href=\"https:\/\/ehrmanblog.org\/where-did-the-trinity-come-from-the-briefer-video-version\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">a video about the development of the doctrine of the Trinity<\/a>. He also <a href=\"https:\/\/ehrmanblog.org\/other-christians-who-said-christ-was-not-fully-god\/?utm_source=feedly&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=other-christians-who-said-christ-was-not-fully-god\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">blogged about adoptionism<\/a>.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/peteenns.com\/interview-with-maria-doerfler-reading-the-bible-in-times-of-crisis\/?utm_source=feedly&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=interview-with-maria-doerfler-reading-the-bible-in-times-of-crisis\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Maria Doerfler spoke with Pete Enns about reading the Bible in a time of crisis<\/a><\/p>\nIf you are interested in the historical Paul the apostle and his <a href=\"https:\/\/craigkeener.com\/a-closer-look-conversion\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cconversion\u201d or epic reversal<\/a>, I hope you will find the chapter on Joanna\/Junia in my book\u00a0What Jesus Learned from Women<\/em> surprisingly relevant.
