INTERNATIONAL BIBLICAL SCHOLAR TO SPEAK AT FRANKLIN COLLEGE 2010-11 FAITH-BASED LECTURE SERIES<\/p>\n

FRANKLIN, Ind. \u2013 Dr. Marcus Borg will present \u201cTelling the Story of Jesus Today,\u201d Thursday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Branigin Room of the Napolitan Student Center as part of the college\u2019s 2010-11 faith-based Convocation Lecture Series.<\/p>\n

Borg is the Canon Theologian at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Portland, Oregon. He is internationally known in both academic and church circles as a biblical and Jesus scholar.<\/p>\n

Borg was the Hundere Chair of Religion and Culture in the Philosophy Department at Oregon State University. Also, as a Fellow of the Jesus Seminar, he has been the national chair of the Historical Jesus Section of the Society of Biblical Literature and co-chair of its International New Testament Program Committee.<\/p>\n

He has appeared on NBC\u2019s \u201cToday Show\u201d and \u201cDateline,\u201d PBS\u2019s \u201cNewshour,\u201d ABC\u2019s \u201cEvening News\u201d and \u201cPrime Time\u201d with Peter Jennings, NPR\u2019s \u201cFresh Air\u201d with Terry Gross, and several National Geographic programs.<\/p>\n

As an author, Borg has written over 19 books and co-authored numerous other works, which have been translated into 11 languages. He holds a doctorate from Oxford University.<\/p>\n

The lecture is free and no ticket is required to attend, although seating will be limited. <\/p>\n

Founded in 1834, Franklin College<\/a> is a residential four-year undergraduate liberal arts institution with a scenic, wooded campus located 20 minutes south of downtown Indianapolis<\/a>. The college prepares men and women for significant careers through the liberal arts, offering its 1,060 students 36 majors, including biology, business, education and journalism.
