Jan Holton<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2rmLFk0\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Miguel A. De La Torre<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/cwsglobal.org\/rev-john-l-mccullough\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">John L. McCullough<\/a><em>.\u00a0<\/em>More information about the series will be coming your way soon!<\/p>\n<p>Next week the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.desmondtutucenter.org\/2017\/01\/23\/may-25-lunch-and-learn-with-tutu-fellows-brooke-kandel-cisco-susan-adams\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Desmond Tutu Center<\/a> will host a lunchtime viewing of and discussion about a documentary which two of my <a href=\"http:\/\/news.butler.edu\/connection\/2017\/05\/lunch-and-learn-with-tutu-fellows-brooke-kandel-cisco-and-susan-adams\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Butler University<\/a> colleagues were involved in creating, about the Burmese Baptist refugee community here in Indianapolis.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Welcoming Strangers, Finding Brothers and Sisters<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b>May 25, 11a-12p, Atherton Union 326, Butler University, 4600 Sunset Ave, Indianapolis, IN<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Fort Wayne and Indianapolis have settled the largest groups of Burmese refugees in recent years. Most Indianapolis residents are still unaware of the presence of refugees, the contributions refugees make to our community, and the immense challenges refugees experience in Indianapolis. The First Baptist Church\u2019s experiences and learnings as they approach ten years of sharing life with Burmese refugees is the focus of this documentary. As a product of the Desmond Tutu Center Fellowship, this documentary was created as a provocation to foster greater awareness and to encourage public discourse around peace, reconciliation, and justice through civil, respectful, and enlightening cross-cultural interactions.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There will also be <a href=\"http:\/\/news.butler.edu\/connection\/2017\/05\/executive-orders-and-resistance-past-present-and-future\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">an event at Butler, \u201cExecutive Orders and Resistance: Past, Present, and Future\u201d<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"background: #FCFAF7; vertical-align: baseline; margin: 0in 0in 9.6pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: 'Georgia',serif; color: black;\">Monday, May 22, 6:30-8:30 PM, Room 141 in Jordan Hall, Butler University<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: #FCFAF7; vertical-align: baseline; outline: 0px; orphans: 4; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px; margin: 0in 0in 9.6pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: 'Georgia',serif; color: black;\">Unscalable legal walls have long existed from the mid-1800s until the\u00a01960s that prevented many non-Europeans from entering the US. Join\u00a0us as we provide a historical context for understanding recent\u00a0Executive Orders that ban specific people from entering the US. The\u00a0session will seek to go beyond a sense of the immorality of recent\u00a0Executive Orders and understand how they fit into a long history of\u00a0\u201cwall\u201d building that excluded and\/or isolated large\u00a0communities\/populations.
