She notices things such as the uniform whiteness of the actors in major roles, the one reference to race in Decker\u2019s narrating monologue, the casual shooting of someone who is deemed less than human, as well as the presence of a Christ-figure towards the end of the movie. Here is a sample from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/ecopreacher\/2017\/07\/watching-blade-runner-black-lives-matter\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">the post<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>My growing awareness of issues around bias, white supremacy, and racial violence has caused me to look at the world in a different way.\u00a0 As Roy Batty, the head Replicant, says to the man who genetically-designed his eyes, \u201cIf only you could see what I\u2019ve seen with your eyes.\u201d\u00a0 Where I had previously thought of\u00a0<em>Blade Runner<\/em>\u00a0as a future-scape, what I see in the movie now is a metaphor for the ways in which blacks have been viewed and treated in this country for centuries and into the present time.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This seems like a good opportunity to round up some posts related to robots and replicants from elsewhere around the internet\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Blade-Runner-Directors-Harrison-Ford\/dp\/0790729628\/ref=as_li_ss_il?ie=UTF8&amp;linkCode=li2&amp;tag=jamefmcgrshom-20&amp;linkId=cae3df5d183e97c3de697fd4724e50f2\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"\/\/ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/widgets\/q?_encoding=UTF8&amp;ASIN=0790729628&amp;Format=_SL160_&amp;ID=AsinImage&amp;MarketPlace=US&amp;ServiceVersion=20070822&amp;WS=1&amp;tag=jamefmcgrshom-20\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\"><\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;\" src=\"https:\/\/ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/e\/ir?t=jamefmcgrshom-20&amp;l=li2&amp;o=1&amp;a=0790729628\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/videos\/cbsn-on-assignment-explores-japans-future-of-humanoid-robots\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">CBS has a fascinating video about the development of humanoid robots in Japan<\/a> to serve as caretakers for an increasingly older population.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/religionnews.com\/2017\/07\/26\/mormons-in-space-sci-fi-or-no-lie\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Don\u2019t miss the article that emerged from my conversation with Kimberly Winston about Mormons and science fiction<\/a>, as well as <a href=\"http:\/\/io9.gizmodo.com\/apparently-you-cant-say-god-on-star-trek-1797301585\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">IO9\u2019s piece on whether you are allowed to say \u201cGod\u201d on Star Trek<\/a>, which was picked up on by the British newspaper <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/tv\/0\/new-series-star-trek-discovery-confirms-no-god-trek-universe\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Telegraph<\/a>, <\/em>before <a href=\"http:\/\/io9.gizmodo.com\/okay-so-now-star-trek-discovery-can-say-god-1797480353\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">others connected to the show said that in fact diversity prevails in the Star Trek future<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.joemygod.com\/2017\/07\/17\/elon-musk-issues-warning-regulate-ai-late\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Several<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/freethoughtblogs.com\/pharyngula\/2017\/07\/17\/the-biggest-risk-that-we-face-as-a-civilization\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">people<\/a> have mentioned <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/elon-musk-warns-nations-governors-of-looming-ai-threat-calls-for-regulations-1500154345\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Elon Musk\u2019s comments<\/a> to the effect that artificial intelligence is the biggest threat to humanity \u2013 a bold claim, to be sure, at a time when climate change, poverty, terrorism, and other things are serious contenders. But that doesn\u2019t necessarily mean he is wrong. On the other hand, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/business\/the-economy\/jobs-being-taken-by-robots-wheres-your-evidence-20170804-gxpcdk.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">some think that even predictions about robots taking all our jobs are based on little or no real evidence<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newscientist.com\/article\/mg23531342-800-ai-doctors-should-improve-healthcare-but-not-at-any-cost\/?utm_campaign=RSS%7CNSNS&amp;utm_source=NSNS&amp;utm_medium=RSS&amp;utm_content=news&amp;campaign_id=RSS%7CNSNS-news\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><em>New Scientist<\/em><\/a>\u00a0explored the question of what rights AI doctors ought to have to access your data. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insidehighered.com\/blogs\/technology-and-learning\/when-marketing-good-and-tyler-cowen-wrong-about-robot-economy\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><em>Inside Higher Ed<\/em><\/a> discussed the robot economy.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.joemygod.com\/2017\/07\/13\/today-creepy-robots-video-3\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Joe My God shared a video<\/a> of robots debating\u00a0consciousness.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=u9-pUv9G3xM\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=u9-pUv9G3xM<\/a>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/newhumanist.org.uk\/articles\/5210\/book-review-to-be-a-machine\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><em>New Humanist<\/em> reviewed a recent transhumanist book<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I am long overdue to mention that when\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenflame.org\/2015\/09\/11\/transhuman-films\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Stephen Garner<\/a>\u00a0returned to blogging, he\u00a0announced a new project,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/transhumanfilms.com\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Transhuman Films<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/io9.com\/blank-bodies-is-a-technological-retelling-of-genesis-1727580605?commerce_insets_disclosure=off&amp;utm_expid=66866090-48.Ej9760cOTJCPS_Bq4mjoww.1&amp;utm_referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">IO9 shared \u201cBlank Bodies,\u201d<\/a> a technological reimagining of Genesis.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/137556612\">https:\/\/vimeo.com\/137556612<\/a>\n<p>I am also long overdue to mention <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/friendlyatheist\/2014\/09\/03\/study-shows-that-more-religious-places-show-less-scientific-innovation-or-when-religion-wins-science-loses\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Hemant Mehta\u2019s blog post<\/a>, which highlights a study that noted an inverse\u00a0correlation between religiosity and scientific innovation. <a href=\"http:\/\/wmbriggs.com\/blog\/?p=13581\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">William Briggs responded<\/a> and raised important questions. Questions I had include\u00a0whether this correlation indicate causation, and what measures of religiosity were used.<\/p>\n<p>You will (and\/or should) also find discussions of basic income whenever the impact of robots on the economy comes up. And so here are some links related to that subject:<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/business\/news\/finland-universal-basic-income-lower-stress-better-motivation-work-wages-salary-a7800741.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Finland, introduction of basic income<\/a> has results that skeptics of the system will find counterintuitive. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commonwealmagazine.org\/free-banquet?utm_source=Main+Reader+List&amp;utm_campaign=14d9605c77-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_03_16&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_407bf353a2-14d9605c77-91250989\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><em>Commonweal<\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.economist.com\/news\/special-report\/21700760-artificial-intelligence-will-have-implications-policymakers-education-welfare-and?fsrc=scn\/fb\/te\/pe\/ed\/reeducatingrita\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><em>The Economist<\/em><\/a> also had articles at least somewhat related to that topic.
