{"id":427,"date":"2011-06-03T00:30:49","date_gmt":"2011-06-03T04:30:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.patheos.com\/community\/exploringourmatrix\/?p=421"},"modified":"2011-06-03T00:30:49","modified_gmt":"2011-06-03T04:30:49","slug":"the-ouzo-prophecy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/religionprof\/2011\/06\/the-ouzo-prophecy.html","title":{"rendered":"The Ouzo Prophecy"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p>I presume that professors in most fields get e-mails and\/or packages with manuscripts from people who are sure they have incredible insights into this, that, or the other.<\/p>\n<p>Today I received an e-mail <a href=\"http:\/\/church-of-ouzo.com\/pdf\/ouzo-prophecy.pdf\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">sharing a link to \u201cThe Ouzo Prophecy\u201d and I thought I would share it<\/a>, because it is just so amusing.<\/p>\n<p>The funniest part isn\u2019t the beginning, which says  \u201cI am Bob the Baptist, precursor of the second coming of Christ, whose name is Tor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No, something funnier still comes further down the first page, where one reads \u201cSerious Biblical scholars, including top Hollywood movie producers\u2026\u201d Now <i>that<\/i> is laugh out loud funny!<\/p>\n<p>If you interact often with fringe groups like creationists or mythicists, it is useful to get these sorts of e-mails. They are a great reminder that the more popular forms of pseudoscience and pseudoscholarship are not developed and promoted by people who are lacking in either intelligence or sanity. They may be ideologically motivated, or simply have a blind spot they don\u2019t notice, or do what they do for some other reason. But however unpersuasive their claims or selective their use of scholarly methods might be, it takes a certain kind of logic and intelligence to develop the explanatory structure that allows one to hold and defend such views against the crashing waves mainstream thinking and cognitive dissonance. And so those viewpoint should not be treated as though they are stupid or crazy. They are simply unscholarly, unscientific, and\/or wrong.<\/p>\n<p>When you <a href=\"http:\/\/church-of-ouzo.com\/pdf\/ouzo-prophecy.pdf\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">see the genuinely cooky<\/a>, you appreciate the difference.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I presume that professors in most fields get e-mails and\/or packages with manuscripts from people who are sure they have incredible insights into this, that, or the other.
