Having previously started a meme featuring languages that a blogger has learned or tried to learn<\/a>, I thought I\u2019d pick up on Rod\u2019s suggestion of a new meme \u2013 which languages you would like<\/em> to learn<\/a>.<\/p>\n

For me, the list would include at least the following:<\/p>\n

Korean \u2013\u00a0because then I could understand what Charlotte said on LOST when they didn\u2019t provide subtitles.<\/p>\n

Latin \u2013 because every academic ought to know Latin (and because of LOST).<\/p>\n

Swahili \u2013 because I have friends who live and work in Tanzania and its vicinity and would love to visit them sometime.<\/p>\n

Karen \u2013 because there are quite a number of Karen-speaking refugees from Burma in Indianapolis.<\/p>\n

Tagalog \u2013 so that I can say\u00a0something to the person I talk to when I call the AT&T; help line in their own language.<\/p>\n

Basque \u2013 just because (if you\u2019re a geek you\u2019ll already know why Basque is fascinating, and if you aren\u2019t then you\u2019ve already stopped reading).<\/p>\n

Klingon \u2013 so that I can hold my head up high among Star Trek fans.<\/p>\n

Ethiopic \u2013 1 Enoch, \u2019nuff said.<\/p>\n

Rod\u2019s idea also included languages that we\u2019d like to \u201crelearn\u201d or improve our knowledge of, but I think I\u2019ll save that for a separate meme\/post. But thanks to Danut Manastireanu<\/a>, I can share a video about a language I should work on unlearning<\/em>:<\/p>\n
