Everyone flubs historical details at some point, even major ones.<\/p>\n<p>The bigger issue is<a href=\"http:\/\/www.patheos.com\/community\/exploringourmatrix\/2011\/06\/03\/its-hard-to-be-biblical\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"> one that I highlighted in another post recently<\/a>, and which <a href=\"http:\/\/scotteriology.wordpress.com\/2011\/06\/05\/why-i-dislike-sarah-palin\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Scott Bailey also highlighted<\/a>, namely an unwillingness, having been caught ill-informed, to admit that one was wrong.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently <a href=\"http:\/\/homebrewedtheology.com\/palins-fans-editing-paul-revere-wiki-page.php\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">fans of Sarah Palin have been rewriting the Wikipedia entry on Paul Revere<\/a>, in an attempt to make<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paul_Revere\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"> it<\/a> conform to her version of the story.<\/p>\n<p>I would expect nothing less of politicians and ideologues.<\/p>\n<p>But I hope that any and all will acknowledge that the attempt to fabricate history rather than admit that oneself, or one\u2019s favorite politician, is wrong, is absolutely incompatible with the label Christian.<\/p>\n<p>If you disagree, then just rewrite Wikipedia, so that instead of the Gospel of John having him say \u201cthe truth will set you free,\u201d it said \u201cyou\u2019re free to set the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On a related note, <a href=\"http:\/\/religion.blogs.cnn.com\/2011\/06\/05\/thats-not-in-the-bible\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">John Blake has an article on phantom Bible verses<\/a>, which people have invented, misremembered, or misattributed to the Bible, and how surprisingly difficult it is to persuade people they have got it <a href=\"http:\/\/zwingliusredivivus.wordpress.com\/2011\/06\/05\/whats-this-a-reporter-does-a-story-on-the-bible-and-actually-gets-it-right-and-interviews-people-who-know-it\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">wrong<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Also, David Miller has a <a href=\"http:\/\/gervatoshav.blogspot.com\/2011\/06\/cfd-moule-on-birth-of-new-testament.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">quote from renowned New Testament scholar C. F. D. Moule<\/a> on the humility that should characterize Christians.<\/p>\n<p>And in mostly unrelated news, <a href=\"http:\/\/theconnexion.net\/wp\/?p=10741#axzz1ORV2KwUT\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Richard Hall has a parable about the difference between climate and weather<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/religionnerd.com\/2011\/06\/05\/weathering-religion-weather-channel-theodicies\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Religion Nerd has a post about weather and religion<\/a>.
