I am delighted to share the news and help spread the word that Delvyn Case is now a Patheos blogger! His blog will focus on the Bible and music, a longstanding interest we both share, which is what led to us making one another\u2019s acquaintance in the first place. His blog is called Alleluia! Music and the Christian Life<\/a>, and by the time I realized it was live, it already had several interesting posts on it. Take a look!<\/p>\n

Del and I had a great conversation about our shared interests and distinct but related projects on his wonderfully-titled Deus ex Musica podcast<\/a>\u00a0a while back. Have a listen to the episode<\/a>!<\/p>\n

<\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The name of the podcast comes from an organization that Del\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;\" src=\"https:\/\/ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/e\/ir?t=jamefmcgrshom-20&language=en_US&l=li2&o=1&a=B07JR8TXQH\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\">founded. Check out their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deus-ex-musica.com\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">website<\/a> to learn more, perhaps starting with their project <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deus-ex-musica.com\/in-the-shadow-of-your-wings-1\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">In the Shadow of Your Wings<\/a>, which has been conducted in person in the past but is now online. It provides an interactive way of engaging with the Psalms through music as well as text.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Case-Strange-Energy-Various-Artists\/dp\/B07JR8TXQH\/ref=as_li_ss_il?ie=UTF8&linkCode=li2&tag=jamefmcgrshom-20&linkId=4c31d64bbde26ed24aebf0f6c21b28df&language=en_US\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\" decorated-link\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/\/\/ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/widgets\/q?_encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B07JR8TXQH&Format=_SL160_&ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=US&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=jamefmcgrshom-20&language=en_US\" border=\"0\"><\/a>Del is a <a href=\"https:\/\/wheatoncollege.edu\/academics\/faculty-directory\/delvyn-case\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">faculty member at the Wheaton College in Massachussetts<\/a> (not to be confused with the one near Chicago). Some of <a href=\"http:\/\/delvyn-case.squarespace.com\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Del\u2019s own compositions<\/a> explore biblical texts. If you\u2019d like to explore beyond what is on his website, try the album\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/37RhCGV\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><em>Strange Energy<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A new composition of Del\u2019s was originally planned to be performed in Boston in conjunction with AAR\/SBL. The conference was supposed to be held there in November of this year, but has now been moved online due to the pandemic. That new work explores the version of the Akedah or Binding of Isaac in one of the sources of the Pentateuch. That was previously hypothetical, but has now apparently been confirmed by other evidence in the form of an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archaeology.org\/news\/6552-180418-coptic-papyrus-sacrifice\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Egyptian papyrus<\/a>. In that version of the story, Isaac is not spared from being sacrificed!\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/paleojudaica.blogspot.com\/2020\/05\/lost-texts-of-terror.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Jim Davila mentioned it in responding to a blog post at The Anxious Bench<\/a>. I\u2019m not sure when we\u2019ll all get to hear the work performed given the impact of the pandemic on both academic conferences and the arts, but I look forward to it and will share any additional news that comes my way.<\/p>\n<p>Let me include some other things of interest at the intersection of the Bible and music that have come to my attention.
