Beth Mardutho: The Syriac Institute [www.bethmardutho.org<\/a>] is seeking to appoint an Editorial Assistant for its open-access, peer-reviewed journal,\u00a0Hugoye: Journal of Syriac Studies<\/em>. Established in 1996 with a first issue published in 1998, the journal is one of the early open-access, peer-reviewed journals to be born digital and is now in its twenty-first year. With the advancement of technology, the journal is planning to make full use of text-encoding standards such as TEI and to employ Open Linked Data to connect the journal to other scholarly resources. The responsibilities of the Editorial Assistant are to work with the General Editor and the Associate Editor to edit and encode articles in TEI XML and link data with other resources. (Tutorials to learn these technologies, if already not acquired, will be provided.)<\/p>\n

Candidates must be detail oriented with knowledge of Syriac. Previous editorial\u00a0experience is positive. Knowledge of Arabic and Garshuni is a plus.<\/p>\n

The work-load is sporadic and tends to be more extensive during publication time twice a year.\u00a0 Members of the\u00a0Hugoye\u00a0<\/em>team are all volunteers. This position is also voluntary. The successful candidate will be named Editorial Assistant on the journal\u2019s editorial board page with the possibility of promotion to an Assistant Editor in the future.<\/p>\n
